Since 1990, Garrett has concentrated his practice in the areas of estate, gift, and income tax planning and trust and estate administration.  On the planning side of his practice, Garrett has advised generations of families how to transfer wealth in the most prudent and tax efficient manner.  With respect to matters of administration, Garrett has extensive experience advising executors and trustees and serving as an executor and trustee himself.  From filing all necessary reports with Commissioners of Account throughout Virginia to submitting estate tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service, Garrett prides himself on providing excellent service to executors from the beginning of an estate’s administration until its end.

Garrett graduated from the Washington & Lee School of Law in 1990.  While at Washington & Lee, Garrett was a member of the Law Review, as a published writer and as a member of the Editorial Board.  Garrett also received his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Virginia in 1986.  Garrett has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America in 2010.

Garrett is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Bar Association and a past member of the Estate Planning Council of Richmond.  He has served on the Virginia Bar Association’s Wills, Trusts and Estate Committee.  In addition to delivering talks to various groups concerning tax and estate planning issues, he is a published writer.

Outside of practicing law, Garrett has been actively involved with fundraising efforts for St. Christopher’s School, St. Catherine’s School, the University of Virginia, Wake Forest University, and Washington & Lee’s University and School of Law.
