Michael ArmstrongMichael Armstrong, Esquire

Michael Armstrong graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law. He practiced law in New York City for three years and then returned to Richmond and was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1966. For almost 40 years Mike practiced at Troutman Sanders, LLP and its predecessor firm Mays & Valentine, LLP where he was Chairman of the Trust Department for 15 years.

Mike’s practice focuses primarily on the administration of trusts and estates. He regularly advises individual family members on establishing and administering trusts. Additionally, Mike personally serves as trustee, executor and attorney-in-fact for many of his clients.

Mike is a Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Council (“ACTEC”) and was the Virginia Chair of ACTEC from 1992 to 1997. He was a member of the subcommittee of the Practice Committee of ACTEC that wrote the Guide for ACTEC Fellows Serving as Trustee, as well as the Guide for Clients on What It Means To Be A Trustee. He was president of the Trust Administrators Council of Richmond (1982-1983), and is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Richmond (President 1995-1996), and has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America, Trust and Estate’s Section every year since 1987.
