Michael ArmstrongMichael Armstrong, Esquire

Michael Armstrong graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law. He practiced law in New York City for three years and then returned to Richmond and was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1966. For almost 40 years Mike practiced at the law firm previously known as Mays & Valentine, which is now known as Troutman Sanders, LLP where he was Chairman of the Trust Department for 15 years.

Mike’s practice focuses primarily on the administration of trusts and estates. He regularly advises individual family members on establishing and administering trusts and estates. Additionally, Mike personally serves as trustee, executor, attorney-in-fact, guardian and custodian for many of his clients.

Mike was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Council (“ACTEC”) in 1981, and was the Virginia Chair of ACTEC from 1992 to 1997. He was a member of the subcommittee of the Practice Committee of ACTEC that wrote the Guide for ACTEC Fellows Serving as Trustee, as well as the Guide for Clients on What It Means To Be A Trustee. He is a member of the Trust Administrators Council of Richmond (President 1982-1983), the Estate Planning Council of Richmond (President 1995-1996), and has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America, Trust and Estate’s Section, from 1987 to 2007.
