J. Garrett Horsley, Esquire
Garrett graduated from the Washington & Lee School of Law in 1990. While at Washington & Lee, Garrett was a member of the Law Review, as a published writer and as a member of the Editorial Board. Garrett also received his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Virginia in 1986.
Garrett concentrates his practice in the areas of estate, gift and general tax planning, trust administration and estate settlement, and the operation and establishment of charitable foundations. He has extensive experience in advising executors and trustees.
Prior to joining Armstrong Bristow Farley & Schwarzschild, Garrett was a partner at Troutman Sanders LLP in the Trusts & Estates Practice Group. He was also a partner with his father, Waller H. Horsley, in the firm Horsley & Horsley, and an associate at Mays & Valentine, LLP, the predecessor to Troutman Sanders.
Garrett has served on the Virginia Bar Association’s Wills, Trusts and Estate Committee since 1997. In addition to delivering talks to various groups concerning tax and estate planning issues, he is a published writer. Garrett is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, and the Estate Planning Council of Richmond.
